Accommodations on Maui range from the extremely comfortable to the most basic. If you're traveling to Maui with small kids, they may not appreciate the windy north shore accommodations as much as the kiteboarders in the family so the resort areas of Lahaina and Wailea may offer better options or at least less windy beaches. Not to worry, though, the kiteboarders are never more than 30 to 60 minutes from kite beach, so pick the area that best suits you and your family. If you want to really live it up or have non-kiting friends or family with you, then we definitely recommend the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea. And, if you are the totally adventurous type and want to camp, then you'll need to contact Maui County Parks & Recreation Department to obtain camping permits. There are camp sites within the Kite Beach area so you could literally wake up and roll right out of your tent and into the ocean with your kite and board.
The 3 main cities on the island you will most likely want to consider for accommodations are Paia (north shore), Lahaina (west side) and Wailea/Kihei (south shore). Paia is more kick back, naturally beautiful, and less touristy. Options for housing include B&B, cottages, small hotels, and bungalows. Lahaina and Wailea have beautiful, family-oriented hotels and condos. Night life in Lahaina and Wailea is also much more interesting than the north shore entertainment and all three cities have really good restaurants and beautiful beaches. Cary (#1) and his staff provide custom travel arrangements including accommodations, car rentals, and island activities. Take your pick from a wide selection of options around the island from economical studios to deluxe oceanfront villas and condominiums.
Valerie (#2) has a very nice Paia cottage for 1 or 2 persons with a small kitchen and private parking. Paia is about 10 minutes by car from kite beach and has very good restaurants.
Poni (#3) has 2 oceanfront houses on the same property near Paia with great ocean views accommodating 2 to 20 persons.
Maria (#4) has many north shore Paia cottages and bungalows with small kitchens.
Anne (#5) has a beautiful house divided into 5 separate units with private entrances just outside of Paia and next to Mama's Fish House.
#6 & 7 are very basic and are rated 5 on a scale of 1 to 10 and are near the shopping mall and good restaurants. Both are about one mile from the KSM office and kite beach.
